Munnar Itinerary for 2 Days: A Practical, Unhurried Plan

Munnar itinerary

A practical Munnar itinerary for 2 days.

Two days is enough to experience Munnar without turning the trip into a race. The key is to group sights sensibly, allow for mountain-road travel time and leave some space to enjoy where you are staying.

Munnar hills and tea landscape for a two-day itinerary

Munnar looks compact on a map, but winding roads mean short distances can take longer than expected. A good two-day plan should therefore focus on a few strong experiences rather than trying to cover every viewpoint, waterfall and attraction.

If you are still deciding what to include before building a timed itinerary, start with our broader guide to things to do in Munnar. This page is intentionally narrower and focuses only on fitting those choices into two unhurried days.

Before you start

Opening days, ticketing rules, road conditions and access to individual attractions can change. Check official or local information close to your travel date, especially during monsoon months and peak holiday periods.

Day 1: Munnar’s classic sights and tea country

Morning: arrive, settle in and start without rushing

If you are arriving from Kochi, Coimbatore or another city, avoid planning a tightly timed attraction immediately after check-in. Mountain-road journeys can vary considerably with traffic and weather.

At Blackberry Hills, check-in is from 1 PM. If your schedule allows, use the first part of the day to settle into the mountainside setting before heading out.

Late morning or early afternoon: Mattupetty and Echo Point

Mattupetty Dam and the broader Mattupetty route are among Munnar’s familiar sightseeing areas. Depending on your interests and the day’s conditions, you can combine the drive with a stop around Echo Point and viewpoints along the route.

Rather than treating every stop as compulsory, choose the places that suit the weather and your pace. This is especially important on weekends and holidays when traffic can build up.

Afternoon: understand Munnar through tea

Tea is central to Munnar’s landscape and history. A museum, factory visit or guided tea experience gives more context to the plantations you see throughout the trip.

If tea interests you, our separate guide to tea factories in Munnar can help you understand the different types of visits before deciding where to go.

Evening: return before the day becomes a checklist

One of the easiest mistakes on a short Munnar trip is staying on the road until every attraction closes. Returning to your resort before dinner gives you time to enjoy the property rather than using it only as a place to sleep.

At Blackberry Hills, that could mean a slow walk through the estate, time by the pool, a spa treatment, tea or dinner at Hornbill Restaurant.

Day 2: choose one major direction

For the second day, choose one major route instead of trying to combine attractions that sit in different directions.

Option A: Eravikulam National Park and the northern side

Eravikulam National Park is one of Munnar’s best-known natural attractions and is associated with the Nilgiri tahr and high-altitude grasslands. Entry systems, closures and seasonal arrangements can change, so check current information before travelling.

This option suits visitors who want a nature-focused morning and would rather keep the rest of the day relatively flexible.

Option B: Top Station and the eastern route

Top Station is known for broad mountain views and the journey itself passes through some of Munnar’s most recognisable scenery. Because it is farther from town than several central attractions, allow enough time for the return drive.

Option C: Kolukkumalai for an early start

Kolukkumalai is popular for sunrise views and high-elevation tea landscapes. Access commonly involves local jeep travel over rough terrain rather than a simple paved sightseeing drive. If you choose this option, arrange it with a reputable local operator and confirm pickup time, access and weather conditions beforehand.

An early Kolukkumalai outing can be memorable, but it also makes for a long morning. Avoid packing the afternoon with several distant attractions afterwards.

Where should you stay for a 2-day Munnar trip?

If sightseeing is your only priority, staying in or very close to town may reduce some travel time. If you want the stay itself to feel like part of the Munnar experience, a quieter hillside location can be more rewarding.

Blackberry Hills is in Pothamedu on Bison Valley Road. It offers a quieter mountainside setting while remaining within the wider Munnar area. Our guide to Pothamedu versus Munnar town explains the trade-offs in more detail.

How much should you plan each day?

For most travellers, two or three meaningful stops in a day are enough. Mountain roads, photo stops, meals and weather all add time. Building a spare hour into the plan is often more valuable than adding another attraction.

  • Start early for long-distance attractions.
  • Group places that are on the same route.
  • Keep meal times realistic.
  • Check road and weather conditions during monsoon periods.
  • Leave time to enjoy the resort or homestay.

What to pack for two days in Munnar

Comfortable walking shoes, a light jacket or layer, rain protection when relevant, drinking water and a small day bag are more useful than overpacking. Temperatures can feel different between sunny afternoons and early mornings, especially at higher viewpoints.

A slower two-day plan is usually the better one

Munnar’s appeal is not simply the number of attractions you can mark off. Tea-covered hills, changing mist, quiet roads and time spent outdoors are part of the experience. A two-day trip can feel surprisingly complete when the itinerary leaves room for those moments.
